A relaxed, unstructured session for children aged 0–5 and their parents/carers. Come when it suits you, no need to be on time.

Session Volunteer: Hayley
A new session has been added due to growing demand. A relaxed, unstructured playtime for children aged 0–5 and their parents/carers. Just come when you can, it’s a great way to fill in the afternoon.
Tuesday – Young Mums
9:30 – 11:30am
Session Volunteer: Ahliah
A welcoming and supportive session for young mums in their teens and 20s, with children aged 0–5 years. This session offers a chance to connect with others in a similar life stage, share experiences, and build friendships. Children can explore free play, sensory activities, or crafts at their own pace.
Wednesday – Muslim Mothers

Thursday 9:30 – 11:30am
Session Volunteer: Courtney
Similar in feel to Monday’s session, Thursday playgroup offers relaxed, unstructured play for children aged 0–5 and their parents or carers. Optional sensory or craft activities may be available, but children are free to engage in their own way. A great mid-week chance to slow down, play, and connect.
Thursday – Baby Session 1:00 – 3:00pm
Session Volunteer: Paige & Alexis
Babies are welcome at all Lynwood Ferndale Playgroup sessions. The Tuesday Baby Session a calm and flexible session for parents and babies aged 0–18 months. This calm and flexible session allows families to come and go as it suits them. Whether your baby is feeding, doing tummy time, or on the move, there’s space for it here.
What to expect
Playgroup is welcoming, relaxed, and mostly unstructured.
Unlike some children’s activities with set start times or scheduled programs, our playgroup sessions are designed to move at your family’s pace. You don’t need to arrive exactly on time, and there’s no pressure to participate in everything – just come as you are.
Children are free to:
play independently
play alongside other children
or play with their parent or carer
Parents and carers are always responsible for supervising their own children, and we all keep a friendly eye out for one another.
We usually pause during each session for shared morning tea, giving children a chance to sit together and connect. Families are welcome to join in, or skip it if that works better for them.
Most importantly, playgroup is a space to feel comfortable, connected, and supported – for both children and grown-ups.
When attending playgroup, we ask that all families:

This is essential for our insurance and safety records. If you need help, just ask one of the volunteers – we’re always happy to help.
Help us care for the space
Lynwood Ferndale Playgroup is entirely community-run, and everyone’s help makes a big difference. At the end of each session, please help return toys and equipment to their original places, assist with tidying and vacuuming, and help maintain your session’s shared areas (your session leader can guide you).
Morning tea for children
For our Monday, Tuesday morning and Thursday sessions, we invite children to share morning tea at around 10:30am. If you’d like to participate, please bring a piece of fruit (whatever you have on hand) to share.
Kitchen facilities
A fully equipped kitchen is available for families to use during sessions, along with complimentary tea and coffee.
What to bring
To help children stay comfortable, please remember to bring:
– a labelled water bottle
– any snacks your child may need
– a hat for outdoor play
